We had our first fried turkey at Uncle Matt Cone's house and it was delicious. Not at all greasy as we thought it would be. It was very easy to prepare too. It only took 3 minutes per pound so in a short 40 minutes our bird was ready to go.
He did it out by the pool away from the house in case of large flames. MB was standing ready to kick him and the turkey into the pool if he caught on fire. What a great sister...
Doesn't he look pretty? The bird that is; not Uncle Matt...

Do these stripes make by butt look big?
This is Mike's favorite zoo animal the Okapi. They are a cross between a zebra and a giraffe. They would actually make a very nice farm pet because they seem quiet and would eat all the bad vegetation.
The neat thing about the Okapi is that it has an extremely long tongue to clean its own ears and eyes. This pair were grooming each other. We like their soft brown coat and big ears.

Inside the old time town at the museum
Here is a nice looking wagon; how would you like to ride in this for a couple of days?
B & G wet their whistle with a sarsparilla at the local saloon
MB & Brock go to chapel.

More statues and a pretty tree
This is a statue of an Indian on his way to OKC on the Trail of Tears.
This was a beautiful tree outside the museum that had just turned for the fall.
Inside near the gun exhibit was this ivory sculpture of a panther or mountain lion.

Western museum outside stuff
This is a nice monument to wild Bill Cody. The back of the museum is tucked away behind I-44 and not to far from I-35 in North Central part of OKC.
Here is an old wagon wheel once used by Gen Custer's chuck wagon. It is rumored that it fell off along the way when Custer was fighting Injuns in pre Oklahoma territory. Note the 14 spoke model wheel predated the eight spoke wheel when iron stagecoach wheels were used later when steel wheels became easier to manufacture.
Don't know what these birds are but I will have to check with Grandpa Gary or Grandma Cone.
I like this cowboy poet's poem about his horse: "Under this sod lies a great bucking hoss; There never lived a cowboy he couldn't toss; His name was Midnight; His coat black as coal; If there is a hoss heaven please God rest his soul -- A Cowboy

Gracie Bird the Cattle rustler
This is Grimy Grace the ornery pink booted cattle rustler from back in 1876.
She was brought to justice by her brother Big Brock. She was caught at the store trying to wear a red scarf with Pink boots.
Here she is in the iron cage where they keep the bad kids in town. One minute of solitary confinement for a kid is actually a really long time.

Bevo, beavers, Coyotess, & Pathers Oh my
Here is a shot of Bevo roaming the cattle trail in the kiddie section of the museum. Grace claims when she opened the door he jumped out at her and startled her...
This panther or cougar is about to pounce on some prey.
These coyotes have seen better days but got the kids attention when they started their howling.
Mr Beaver had his own display along with various descriptions of how trappers caught them and sold their furs.

Old time fiddler
At the OKC National cowboy and western museum they had a strolling violinist playing some tunes in the hallways. Grace came out of the bathroom and started a little jig but did not know the man was even behind her walking towards us. See video below for a sample of one of his songs:

Sooner 12th Man
We went down to the OU campus in Norman before the OU vs A&M game to see the Sooner band of the southwest or whatever they call themselves. Pictured above is what we think might be the backup defensive linemen doing their pregame TaiChee workout routine. Later we found out that these were actually Texas girls that made the Sooner team as walk-ons but Stoops got them Flag Corps team scholarships so they would be close by in case of first string injuries.
