Fall Cookies

Gracie and I are perfecting our sugar cookie recipe. I have always been pretty terrible at cut out cookies. I could never get the dough rolled out evenly and it always turned out to be a big mess.

These Fall leaves are our celebration of Autumn. The shapes turned out great and the glaze looked pretty good as well. Still working on the details.....

We are looking forward to Christmas Tree cut outs in December. Lucky for us, between neighbors, school and Mike's office, we have plenty of volunteers to sample cookies while we perfect our cut out cookie process :)

Route 66

Just a few miles North of us on I35, you can turn off the highway and onto Route 66- yes that Route 66! Within 8 miles of I35, there are two Route 66 icons...
The Round Barn

and POPS!

The Round Barn is exactly as described. You can stop there and go inside. Inside is kind of a creepy, one old man museum of round barns across the nation, strange Route 66 memorabilia and handwritten joke signs from the resident old timer that hosts the place.

Next is POPS. POPS is a gas station stop and serves hundreds of kinds of bottled sodas. Every flavor and color imaginable! It is fun to stop in and try different kinds. Outside of the gas station is a 66 foot light up soda bottle. The lights change color all night long and race up and down the bottle. The kids loved it!

We are planning a trip to Tulsa in mid-November. I think we are going to take old Route 66 on the way there and enjoy the scenic drive! Hopefully we can find more fun places to stop along the way!

Trick or Treat!

We had a great time Trick or Treating on Tinker AFB last night. Brock was a tatoo'd tough guy and Gracie was a blue haired witch. Grandma Cone graciously made Gracie's costume and she loved it!

We didn't have as many kids come to the house as last year. Most of our street is either condemned or deployed- sounds cheerful doesn't it? But the neighbors we do have are great. Our next door neighbor went to an 80s themed party as Don Johnson-

Sadly, as the neighbors pointed out, Mike and I could provide real life cultural verification of the 1980s- We are the old timers on the block! Spooky!

Happy Halloween,

Acolyte Brock

Brock was an acolyte at church on October 19th. He was a little nervous, but did a great job. Wickline UMC had a class for 4th and 5th graders this year and Brock was happy to participate. We have been taking the kids to Bible Bunch on Wednesday nights since school started. It is like Vacation Bible School for one evening each week! (for those of you who have volunteered at VBS, you can read between the lines that the good news AND the bad news is that it is like VBS one night a week!)

We are very proud of Mr. B!

Grace's new walls

Grace has been asking to paint her room for almost a year. Of course, as you know, we should have painted the moment we moved here to get maximum enjoyment from our colored walls. When we move out of base housing, we have to paint it back. Thus, Grace has never had a painted room. I can see myself painting the first time, but I never could picture myself re-painting in the middle of a PCS move~ Those last few weeks before we move are always so hectic that the thought of adding painting to the "To-Do" list was always something I thought would push me over the edge.

But, the kids are growing up! They really are more of a help at home than they have ever been and it seems like our moves are getting smoother- practice makes perfect right?

So we compromised. Over Fall break we painted two walls in Gracie's room. She picked the color at Home Depot by using the color match machine and the pillow sham from her bedspread set. We did some furniture moving and some taping first thing in the morning, and with Brock's help, we had the walls done in about an hour and a half.

Grace is thrilled and I was happy to be reminded that painting isn't as difficult as I had remembered! Her room looks great :)

Remind me to come back and read this post when we are PCSing next summer and I am losing it!

Much love,
